Our History

One Goal – improve the quality of life for present and future generations

• Since 1958, 300 projects totaling over $13 million dollars have been invested in our community

• Over 450 scholarships totaling over $700,000 awarded to local students at trade and technical colleges

The Owatonna Foundation was incorporated in 1958, but the roots of citizen involvement in Owatonna go back to the 1800s. Owatonna Foundation is one of the few foundations of its type in a community of our size. It was established with one goal, to improve the quality of life for present and future generations, safe keeping a spirit of belonging and sharing to pass along from our forefathers to our grandchildren.  Since its inception, the Foundation has granted close to $13 million in support of Capital Campaign Grants in our community.

With each passing year, it is evident that philanthropic intent and commitment to strengthen our community is strong among the citizens of Owatonna.  Individuals, families, and businesses entrust the Foundation to manage and distribute their charitable gifts through Capital Grants and Scholarships.  Their endowed funds have helped preserve our history and respond to the changing needs of our community.

The Owatonna Foundation isn't just about deciding where to spend endowed funds, it's about investing ideas, visions, and people.  The Foundation takes a strong leadership role not only by providing financial support, but also by offering fresh perspectives on emerging community needs. The Foundation realizes that ideas today can become something great for our children and grandchildren.   And when the Foundation approves Capital Grants to improve the areas of Arts, Education, Community, and Recreation, it helps all residents of Owatonna have a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
