Dr. Brian Bunkers

Dr. Brian Bunkers has served on the Owatonna Foundation Board since 2015 and is a member of the Grants Committee.  Dr. Bunkers is a Family Medicine physician who has practiced in the Mayo Clinic Health System - Owatonna since 1991.  He received his undergraduate degree from St. John’s University in Collegeville MN, his medical education at the University of Minnesota and his Family Medicine residency training at the University of Wisconsin. 

 

He is married to Dr. Kari Bunkers, also a Family Medicine physician who has now retired.  They have three adult children: Nathan, Marianna and Luke.  Dr. Bunkers has practiced the full scope of Family Medicine in his career and has received many patient care honors including being named Minnesota Family Physician of the Year in 2006.  He also holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor of Family Medicine at Mayo Clinic. From a leadership perspective Dr. Bunkers has served in many capacities for Mayo including 15 years as the CEO of the Owatonna practice.  

 

Dr. Bunkers has also been an active community member and continues to also serve on the Board of Directors for Transitional Housing of Steele County and is the team physician for Owatonna High School athletics.
