Owatonna Soccer Association

Soccer ScoreboardThe Owatonna Foundation was instrumental in helping the Owatonna Soccer Association build the Owatonna Soccer Complex — one of the best soccer complexes in the State of Minnesota. The complex consists of nine fields (three regulation-size fields, two medium-size fields, and four small fields) to accommodate all age groups.

When the Association applied for a grant from the Owatonna Foundation there was a large and growing interest in youth soccer in the community and a shortage of soccer fields. The Owatonna Foundation provided a matching grant for the complex plus an additional grant for an electronic scoreboard. Several years later the Foundation gave another matching grant to construct lighting for two of the regulation-size fields and for construction of a concession storage building. This enabled the Owatonna High School programs to play all of their games, including night games, at the soccer complex. The high school varsity field is one of the best soccer fields in the Big Nine Conference.

The Owatonna Soccer Complex is a wonderful asset to our community and is used by thousands of young people in Park and Recreation programs, the Owatonna Soccer Association traveling programs, high school athletic programs and several local adult teams. Coaches, players and fans from other communities frequently comment about the high quality of the Owatonna soccer complex. The soccer complex is enjoyed by people in our community and out-of-town guests from very diverse backgrounds.

Owatonna Community Aquatic Center

Owatonna Aquatic Center SwimmerFor decades the idea of an outdoor swimming facility in Owatonna has been in the hearts and minds of its community members. Thanks in great part to the leadership grant by the Owatonna Foundation, this dream is finally a reality, with opening of the pool in the Spring of 2009. The Owatonna Community Aquatic Center offers recreational and competitive swimming opportunities for individuals of all ages. The facility is built in a safe location where young people can learn to swim and develop water safety awareness. It provides a place for physical fitness, family entertainment, education, and employment, and is designed to accommodate and promote intergenerational recreation.

“The Owatonna Foundation was there with us from the beginning and their early endorsement produced the confidence and momentum for our project to be successful. The Owatonna community will be forever grateful for the Foundation’s support of this project.” – Peng Olson, Co-Chair, Pool Together Owatonna Committee
